Job Description
We are looking for a Dry Bulk Operator for a commodity trading company based in the UAE.
Location – Dubai, UAE
Salary – 12,000 – 18,000 AED/month + benefits
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Trade, or Business Administration.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in dry bulk operations, preferably within a commodity trading house or ship operating company.
- Proven experience managing coal or other bulk commodity shipments.
- In-depth knowledge of Charter Parties, LCs, shipping documentation, and insurance.
- Familiarity with CTRM systems (e.g., Aspect, Allegro, Fusion, Nova or OpenLink).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and multitasking skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written); other languages are a plus
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Execution
- Act as the main point of responsibility for all coal shipment operations from contract to completion.
- Manage the full shipment lifecycle: pre-fixture, post-fixture, and voyage execution for both sale and purchase contracts.
- Coordinate with shipowners, charterers, agents, surveyors, clients and terminals to ensure efficient loading and discharge operations.
- Track and report on vessel positions, cargo readiness, weather impacts, and port operations.
- Ensure operational performance aligns with the commercial expectations of traders.
Contract and Documentation Management
- Review and manage Sales and Purchase Contracts, Charter Parties, Insurance Policies, and Letters of Credit.
- Liaise closely with Finance and Trade Execution teams to initiate, monitor, and close out LCs and shipping documentation.
- Ensure timely submission of insurance declarations, shipping instructions, and operational notices.
- Update and maintain shipment data in CTRM systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness for trading, finance, and risk reporting.
Commercial Coordination
- Work in close collaboration with traders to align operational decisions with commercial strategy and margin protection.
- Provide traders with proactive updates on shipment progress, costs, and risks.
- Identify and mitigate demurrage, detention, or performance exposure early through active monitoring and negotiation.
- Support freight optimization and post-fixture claim management.
Financial and Administrative Control
- Follow up on all incoming and outgoing invoices, coordinating with finance for timely settlement and reconciliation.
- Verify and process freight, demurrage, despatch, and port cost calculations.
- Prepare and deliver periodic operational and insurance reports, including shipment schedules, exposure reports, and risk summaries.
Logistics and Stock Oversight
- Oversee coal stock monitoring, port movements, and blending operations where applicable.
- Execute vessel nominations, shipment schedules, and ensure seamless cargo coordination with suppliers and customers.
- Maintain constant communication with logistics partners to ensure timely cargo readiness and documentation flow.
About the Role:
The Senior Dry Bulk Operator is responsible for the full operational execution of coal and other dry bulk products traded by the company, ensuring each shipment runs smoothly, efficiently, and in line with contractual, commercial, and risk management objectives.
Operating within a fast-paced commodity trading environment, this role serves as the key link between traders, shipowners, suppliers, buyers, finance, and insurers.
