Job Description
We are looking for a Cables & OHL Tender Engineer for a construction company based in Abu Dhabi.
Location – Abu Dhabi, UAE
Salary – 12,000 AED/month
Requirements:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Some positions may also require knowledge in mechanical or power systems engineering, especially when dealing with complex overhead line systems.
- Strong knowledge of cable systems (e.g., underground cables, high-voltage cables, etc.) and overhead line systems (e.g., transmission towers, conductors, insulators).
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in electrical transmission, such as IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards.
- Understanding of various installation techniques for cables and OHL (e.g., direct burial, duct installation, aerial cable, etc.).
- Previous experience in tendering or project engineering in the power transmission and distribution sector, especially focusing on cables and overhead lines.
- Experience with EPC projects and the tendering process within the construction and energy industries.
- Competency in tendering and estimation software (e.g., MS Excel, SAP, or specific EPC software) to prepare accurate bids and cost estimates.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) for scheduling and planning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical documents and interacting with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- The ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to assess risks, develop cost-effective solutions, and handle challenges during the tendering process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tender Preparation:
- Project Scope Review: Thoroughly review the scope of the project, including design drawings, specifications, and technical documents, to understand the full scope of work related to cables and overhead lines.
- Proposal Development: Develop and prepare comprehensive tender submissions, including technical proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Material Selection: Identify and specify the types of cables, conductors, insulators, and other materials needed for the overhead line installation or cable laying.
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, transportation, equipment, and other resources required for cable and overhead line projects.
- Scheduling: Develop project schedules outlining timelines for procurement, construction, and commissioning of cables and overhead lines.
- Technical Design Review: Collaborate with design engineers to ensure that the proposed solution meets the client's technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Design Modifications: Suggest modifications or improvements to the initial design to optimize cost, efficiency, or material usage without compromising quality.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability of different cable installation methods or overhead line routes, considering environmental and technical constraints.
- Supplier Engagement: Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain competitive quotes for the necessary materials (e.g., cables, conductors, insulators, poles, etc.).
- Subcontractor Coordination: If required, coordinate with subcontractors for specialized tasks like civil works or specific installations related to cable laying or overhead lines.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks in the cable and OHL projects (e.g., environmental challenges, project delays, technical difficulties) and propose mitigation measures.
- Quality and Safety Compliance: Ensure that all designs and proposals adhere to quality standards and safety regulations.
- Preparation of Tender Documents: Ensure that the tender documents are complete, accurate, and submitted within the required deadlines.
- Client Interaction: Participate in meetings with clients to discuss the proposal, clarify technical aspects, and respond to any queries or concerns regarding the tender.
- Clarifications and Negotiations: Engage in discussions and negotiations to refine the offer and secure the project, including price negotiations, scope adjustments, and timelines.
- Project Handover: Once the tender is awarded, assist in the smooth handover of the project to the execution team, ensuring all technical and commercial aspects are understood.
- Post-Tender Support: Provide ongoing support to the project team during the execution phase, assisting with technical queries and ensuring that the tender’s commitments are met.
